We've been teaching KS3, GCSE, A-Level and Functional Skills students across the UK since 2020, one-to-one, live and online. Subject tutors, a coordinator who handles every enquiry, and a head tutor who still teaches.

No call centre, and no matching algorithm either. Someone on the team reads your enquiry and picks a tutor for it. That takes longer than a search filter, and it's the reason the first match usually sticks.

Three roles, and you'll come across all of them. A coordinator answers your enquiry and stays your point of contact throughout. A subject tutor teaches every lesson. The head tutor oversees the match and steps in if anything needs changing.

Rumaan Aslam founded RS Remote Tutoring in 2020 and leads it as Head Tutor. He holds a Master of Pharmacy and has seven years of teaching experience across classroom and private tuition.

A pharmacy degree is an odd route into tutoring, and it explains more about how we teach than a PGCE would. Four years of pharmacology and organic chemistry teaches you one thing above all: you don't understand something until you can explain it to somebody who doesn't.

Rumaan started tutoring alongside his degree and kept at it afterwards, moving lessons online in 2020. The team grew from there, tutors added subject by subject, most through recommendation rather than a job advert, and a coordinator brought in once families needed somebody dedicated to reply to them properly.

He still teaches, and still reviews every tutor match himself. Both of those get harder as a business grows, which is exactly why they're worth holding onto.

The short version

How did the business start?

It began in 2020 with lessons moving online. Tutors were added subject by subject as demand grew, a coordinator took over parent contact, and by 2025 families were writing publicly about grade jumps in Maths, Physics and Science.

2020: lessons move online Teaching went online out of necessity, like everyone else's. The difference was that it stayed online, because students were doing better without an hour of travel bolted onto a school day.
2021 to 2023: the team grows Tutors were added subject by subject as enquiries came in, most of them through recommendation. Almost all early families arrived the same way.
2024: someone owns parent contact Enquiries and progress updates moved to a dedicated coordinator rather than sitting with whichever tutor was free. That's why messages now get answered in minutes instead of in the evening.
2025: results in writing Several families wrote publicly about grade jumps that summer, including three separate Grade 4 to Grade 7 moves in Maths and Physics. Those reviews are on the reviews page, quoted in full.

How we think about teaching

What do we actually believe about tutoring?

Four things, and none of them are "we're passionate about education". A student has to do the work in the lesson. Fit between tutor and student matters more than credentials. Lessons follow the school's course, not ours. And nobody should pay before meeting the tutor.

The student does the work

An hour of watching somebody explain things is not tutoring, it's a video with extra steps. In a good lesson the student is working through problems and getting corrected in the moment they go wrong. That's the bit you're actually paying for, and it's the bit that can't be replaced by a revision channel.

Fit beats credentials

Plenty of people with excellent degrees are poor teachers. The skill that matters is noticing when a student is lost and changing the explanation, which doesn't show up on a CV. That's why we match by hand, and why the trial is free: thirty minutes tells you whether your child talks to this person or shuts down.

Follow the school, don't compete with it

Lessons are built around the student's own exam board, tier and current topics. A student sitting Edexcel Higher shouldn't be practising OCR Foundation questions. Tutoring works best as a supplement to what school is doing, which is also what the research on one-to-one tuition consistently finds.

Nobody pays before meeting the tutor

The 30-minute trial is free, takes no card details, and carries no obligation to book. If the match is wrong you owe nothing and we'll look again. Charging a registration fee before a family has met anyone would be the easiest money in this business. We don't take it.

None of that is unusual as a set of beliefs. Acting on all four at once is the harder part, and it's the reason the matching is still done by a person rather than handed to a filter.

Students in Years 7 to 13 studying KS3, GCSE or A-Level, plus adults and apprentices taking Functional Skills Level 2 Maths and English. Subjects are Maths, English, the Sciences, Computer Science and Religious Studies.

School students

Years 7 to 13, at KS3, GCSE and A-Level. Most arrive somewhere between quietly drifting and openly panicking about a mock result.

Adults and apprentices

Functional Skills Level 2 Maths and English, for people who need the qualification for a job, an apprenticeship or a college place. Usually on a deadline, often years out of a classroom.

Resit students

GCSE resits in November or the following summer. A resit is a different problem from a first sitting, and it needs a different plan rather than the same year repeated.
