Tutor GCSE students online with RS Remote Tutoring
We are growing and we need more qualified, experienced tutors to teach one to one on Zoom. We find the students, handle the parents, the bookings and the payments, and you teach. Every lesson is one to one, so you can actually move a grade rather than manage a room.
Applications are open now for GCSE Maths tutors in particular, with demand rising for November resit support. If you are UK-based, hold an enhanced DBS and know how to turn a grade 3 into a 5 or a 6 into an 8, we would like to hear from you.
Applications take about ten minutes. Attach a CV, list your qualifications, and tell us when you are free for a short Zoom interview. We reply to every application.
What you need to apply
We are selective, because parents book us on the strength of results. The four requirements below are fixed. Beyond them, we look for tutors who genuinely like teenagers, explain things clearly, and can hold a 15 year old's attention through a screen for an hour.
Essential requirements
- Based in the UK and eligible to work in the UK. We verify right to work for every tutor before their first lesson.
- Fully qualified in your subject. For GCSE Maths that means a relevant degree, or QTS with Maths as a specialism, or an equivalent professional qualification.
- Highly experienced. You have taught GCSE Maths to real students, in a classroom, a tutoring centre or one to one, and you can point to grades that moved.
- An enhanced DBS check. If yours is not on the Update Service, we will talk you through renewing it before you start.
You will fit in well here if you
- relate easily to 14 to 18 year olds and can match their energy rather than talk down to them
- are completely at home with Zoom, screen sharing, a digital whiteboard and shared documents
- know the AQA, Edexcel and OCR specifications well enough to spot which board a student sits from their homework
- are comfortable teaching resit students who have already been told they are bad at maths, and know how to change that story
- reply to messages promptly and turn up on time, every time, because a parent has arranged their evening around your lesson
- are early in your teaching career or a recent graduate with a strong maths background, or an experienced teacher who wants one to one work alongside school. Both do well here.
What tutoring with us looks like
Most of our demand is GCSE Maths at both tiers, and a growing share of it is resit students working towards November and the following summer. We also have our own library of original practice books and lesson notebooks for AQA, Edexcel and OCR, so you are never hunting for material.
One to one, on Zoom
Every lesson is a single student. You teach from home at times you agree with the family, usually weekday evenings and weekends. Lessons are an hour, and most students book weekly or twice weekly through to their exam.
We handle everything except teaching
Enquiries, the free 30-minute trial, matching, scheduling, reminders, parent updates and payment all run through us. You do not market yourself, invoice anyone or chase a late payment.
Resources ready to use
Our free GCSE Maths library covers AQA, Edexcel and OCR at Foundation and Higher: thousands of original exam-style questions with worked answers, plus teach-from-scratch lesson notebooks for every topic. Use them as they are or alongside your own material.
Resit specialists wanted
Resit students are our fastest-growing group. They need a tutor who can diagnose the two or three method gaps costing the grade 4, fix them, and rebuild confidence in a short window. If that is a strength of yours, say so in your application.
Foundation and Higher
Tell us which tier you are strongest at. Some tutors are brilliant at getting a grade 5 secured on Foundation; others are the person you want for grade 8 and 9 Higher work. We match on that, not just on availability.
Other GCSE subjects
Maths is where demand is highest right now, but we do take applications from qualified tutors in other GCSE subjects. Set out your subject and experience in the form and we will be in touch as demand arises.
How the process works
The same onboarding we have used for our online GCSE tutors from the start, in seven steps. From application to first paid lesson usually takes one to two weeks, and most of that is waiting on checks rather than on us.

- Apply using the form below with your CV, your qualifications and the days and times you could do a short interview
- Screening: we read every application within two working days and check it against the four essential requirements
- Zoom interview, about 30 minutes: your experience, how you teach, and a short live teaching task so we can see you explain a GCSE method the way you would to a student
- Checks: right to work, identity, qualification certificates and your enhanced DBS, with a copy of your DBS certificate or Update Service consent
- Welcome pack and onboarding call: how bookings, lesson notes, parent communication and payment work, plus our safeguarding and online conduct policy, walked through with you on a call
- Access to the tutor resources: the full AQA, Edexcel and OCR practice library, lesson notebooks and our lesson-notes template
- Your first students: we match you with your first free trial lessons, and you are teaching paid lessons as soon as a family books on

Independent tutors spend a third of their time finding students and chasing payment. Ours spend that time teaching. Rates, expected hours and start dates are discussed at interview.

Enquiries come in every day of the week and we reply within minutes, so tutors with availability fill quickly, especially in the autumn resit window and from January to May.
Paid reliably
Families pay us, and we pay you on a fixed schedule for the lessons you have taught. No invoicing, no reminders, no awkward conversations about money.
Flexible hours you control
Tell us your available slots and we book within them. Teach two evenings a week alongside a school job, or build a full timetable. Adjust it as your term changes.
A small, responsive team
You will know the people you work with by name. Fifteen of our tutors teach GCSE Maths, including three qualified teachers, and questions get answered the same day.
Material you would want anyway
Our practice books and lesson notebooks are independently written by our tutors for the exact specification the student is sitting, so your planning time drops and your lessons stay exam-relevant.

Tutor application questions
The short version: you need to be UK-based with the right to work, qualified, experienced and DBS-checked; we supply the students and handle payment; and you teach one to one on Zoom at times you choose.
Do I need to be a qualified teacher?
Not necessarily. We need you to be fully qualified in your subject and highly experienced at teaching it to GCSE level. QTS is very welcome, and three of our current GCSE Maths tutors are qualified teachers, but a strong maths degree with a solid record of tutoring GCSE students also qualifies. What we will not take on is someone learning the specification as they go.
I do not have an enhanced DBS check yet. Can I still apply?
You can apply, and if your interview goes well we will explain how to obtain an enhanced DBS check before you start. You cannot teach for us until it is in place. If you already hold one, registering it on the DBS Update Service makes onboarding quicker.
Can I apply from outside the UK?
No. All of our tutors are based in the UK and eligible to work in the UK, and we verify right to work before the first lesson. Our students are UK GCSE candidates and lessons run on UK time.
How many hours could I teach?
That is up to you. Some tutors take two or three students alongside a school job; others build a full timetable. Demand is highest on weekday evenings and weekends, and it peaks in the autumn resit window and from January to May. Tell us your available slots and we book within them.
How and when am I paid?
Families pay RS Remote Tutoring, and we pay you on a fixed schedule for the lessons you have taught. You do not invoice families or chase payment. Rates and payment dates are discussed at interview.
What happens at the interview?
It is a 30-minute Zoom call. We talk through your experience and how you teach, then ask you to explain one GCSE method live, as you would to a student, so we can see how you communicate through a screen. There is nothing to prepare beyond being ready to teach something you know well.
Can I get the welcome pack before I apply?
