Do you have resit tutors available now?
Usually, though the weeks after results day are our busiest period of the year and evening slots go first. If you are aiming at the November series, enquire early rather than waiting until the entry is confirmed.
Is ten weeks enough to move a grade?
Often, if the gap is exam technique and a handful of topics rather than the whole specification. Moving a grade 3 to a grade 4 or 5 in that window is common. If the free assessment shows a bigger gap, we will say so and suggest the summer series rather than take your money for a sitting unlikely to work.
Which subjects can be resat in November?
English Language and Maths on most boards. Everything else waits for the following summer series. If you need a Science or another subject, we would usually plan for June rather than rush an autumn attempt.
Does my child have to resit?
Often yes. Students under 18 who do not achieve a grade 4 in English or Maths are generally required to keep studying the subject while in education or training, through a resit or an approved alternative like Functional Skills. Your school or college will confirm which applies.
Do you enter me for the exam?
No. Entries are made through a school, college or exam centre, and if you have left school you enter as a private candidate. We provide tutoring only. Our resit guide covers entry and deadlines in detail.
Should we resit or take Functional Skills instead?
It depends what has been asked for. Functional Skills Level 2 is generally accepted as equivalent to a grade 4 and can often be sat on demand rather than on fixed dates, which suits deadlines. If your employer or course specifically requires a GCSE, that settles it. Raise it at the assessment and we will give you a straight answer.
How do you decide which resit tutor we get?
Someone reads your enquiry and matches on the subject, the board, the tier, the grade achieved, the grade needed and why we think it was missed. You get one name and the reason for it, not a shortlist to compare.
How many lessons will a resit need?
A November resit typically runs eight to twelve lessons, sometimes twice weekly if the runway is short. A summer resit spreads over the year and needs fewer per month. The free assessment gives you a proper estimate rather than a guess.
How much does it cost?
£30 for a 60-minute lesson, dropping to £27.50 on a three-month term plan and £25 on an annual plan. For a November resit the term plan usually works out best. Exam entry fees go to your centre, not to us.
Is the first session really free?
Yes. Thirty minutes with the tutor we have matched, live on Zoom, with no card details and no obligation. It is used to work out why the grade was missed, which is rarely the reason people assume.
My child has lost all confidence. Is tutoring the right thing?
Usually, and one of our Maths tutors went from failing his own exams to an A* before teaching over a thousand lessons, mostly to students in exactly that position. One to one means nobody else is watching, which matters more after a disappointing result than at any other time.
Can adults and college students resit with you?
Yes, and a good number do. Lessons run evenings and weekends as well as daytime, so they fit around college timetables, work and shifts. If you are out of school you will need to enter as a private candidate, which takes longer to arrange.
