Free lesson notebooks, Eduqas C300 Higher

Eduqas Higher Maths lesson notebooks by topic

129 lessons that teach every Eduqas Higher topic, written by our maths tutors and organised into six free PDF notebooks, one for each content area. Each lesson builds the idea, models the method line by line, applies it to an unfamiliar problem and ends with Higher-tier practice.

Each lesson pairs with one chapter of our Eduqas Higher exam-question books. The eight practice questions in a lesson are the first eight questions of that chapter, so the two sets are designed to be used together.

Free to download. No sign up, no email required. Independent resources aligned to Eduqas GCSE Mathematics C300, not produced, approved or endorsed by Eduqas or WJEC.

Structure

How does each lesson work?

Every lesson follows the same four-page sequence: understand the mathematical object, see the method built line by line, apply it somewhere unfamiliar, then practise at Higher demand. Worked answers are collected at the back of each notebook.

The four pages of every lesson

  1. Understand: an original diagram, key vocabulary, why the method works and a checkpoint answered without looking back
  2. Build the method: a routine of interpret, represent, execute and verify, with two worked examples built line by line
  3. Apply and reason: a common misconception, a guided problem with a planning scaffold, and a stretch task
  4. Independent practice: eight questions worth 4 to 6 marks, with set-up and a final check required for anything worth 5 or more

What else is inside

  • a how-to-learn page with a five-step routine: understand, build the method, connect and reason, practise, diagnose and revisit
  • a unit map linking every lesson to its Higher content reference
  • a Higher method bank at the front of each notebook, such as keeping values exact and rounding once at the end
  • calculator discipline notes, since most Eduqas content can appear on either paper
  • worked answers at the back with a marking check stating what a full-mark answer must show
  • error diagnosis by type: interpretation, structure, arithmetic, accuracy or communication
Lesson map

What do the 129 lessons cover?

Every notebook lesson matches one exam-question chapter by number and content reference, so Lesson 10 of the Geometry notebook and Chapter 10 of the Geometry exam-question book teach and practise the same thing.

Notebook Lessons Content references Matching exam-question book
Number 16 HN1 to HN16 16 chapters, 192 questions
Algebra 25 HA1 to HA25 25 chapters, 300 questions
Ratio, Proportion and Rates of Change 17 HR1 to HR17 17 chapters, 204 questions
Geometry and Measures 33 HG1 to HG25 33 chapters, 396 questions
Probability 18 HP1 to HP9 18 chapters, 216 questions
Statistics 20 HS1 to HS7 20 chapters, 240 questions

The notebooks say this openly: Questions 1 to 8 of each lesson are shared with the companion practice book and are not extra questions. Across the six notebooks that is 1,032 shared questions, which is why we count the Eduqas Higher library as 1,548 distinct questions, not 2,580.

Every explanation, worked example and solution is independently written. Content references identify alignment with the Eduqas GCSE Mathematics (C300) Higher content only.

Using the notebooks

How should a student use these?

Learn the lesson, then finish the topic in the exam-question book. Together the pair gives 12 questions per topic: eight inside the lesson and four stretch questions in the matching chapter.

Learning a topic for the first time

Work through the four pages in order. Do not skip the Build the method page: covering each next line and predicting it is where the method is actually learned.

Revising a topic you have met before

Start on the Independent practice page. If you score well, go straight to Questions 9 to 12 of the matching exam-question chapter; if not, go back to page one of the lesson.

Aiming for grade 8 or 9

Take the stretch task seriously. Changing one value and explaining which step breaks is exactly the flexible reasoning the hardest Higher questions test.

Common questions

Lesson notebook questions

The short version: the notebooks are free for personal use, they teach every Eduqas Higher topic, and their practice questions are shared with the companion exam-question books by design.

Who are these notebooks for?

Students sitting Eduqas GCSE Maths at Higher tier, grades 4 to 9, who need a topic taught or retaught rather than only practised. They work for first teaching, for catching up on a missed topic, and for repairing one that keeps going wrong.

Are the practice questions new, or from the exam-question books?

They are shared. The eight practice questions in each lesson are Questions 1 to 8 of the matching exam-question chapter, and each notebook says so. That is deliberate: the lesson teaches the method on those questions, and the exam-question chapter adds Questions 9 to 12 as the stretch set.

Do the notebooks include answers?

Yes. Worked answers for every practice question are at the back of each notebook, each with a marking check stating what a full-mark answer must show. Equivalent valid methods are credited.

How is Eduqas Higher examined?

Two papers of 2 hours 15 minutes each, worth 120 marks and half the grade each. Component 1 is non-calculator and Component 2 allows a calculator, and most content can appear on either. Practise some of every chapter without a calculator, keeping fractions, surds and π exact rather than reaching for a decimal.

Are they free? What is the licence?

The Free Website Edition is free for personal and household educational use. Tutors and schools must obtain the appropriate licence before copying for learners, and resale, paid redistribution and third-party uploading are prohibited.

Do they cover grade 8 and 9 content?

Yes. The Higher-only content is all taught here, including fractional indices and surds, proof, functions and iteration, graph transformations, circle theorems, the sine and cosine rules, vectors, histograms and conditional probability.

My child still struggles after the lesson. What next?

Some topics need a person to explain them a second way, live, while watching where the reasoning goes wrong. If a lesson's practice still scores low after two honest attempts, that is the point to get help, whether from a teacher at school or a tutor. Fifteen of our tutors teach GCSE Maths and the first 30 minutes are free.

Stuck on a topic?

Notebooks teach the method. A tutor makes it stick

Fifteen of our tutors teach GCSE Maths, including three qualified teachers. Lessons are one to one on Zoom, £30 each with no premium for Higher tier, and the first 30 minutes are free with no card details. If a lesson still scores low after two attempts, that is usually the sign to get help with the method.
